Croatian Independence War
The Croatian Independence war was from 1991 to 1995 . Croatia had withdrew from the Yugoslav Federation but the Serb minority in Croatia rejected the authority of the Croatian state citing the right to remain with Yugoslav. "Yugoslavia, a paragon of economic self-sufficiency twenty years before, had finally dissolved into units with sharply varying potential prosperity." As a result, Croatian-Serbs rebelled declaring nearly one-third of Croatian's territory under their control to be an independent Serb state. Croats and non-Serbs were expelled from it's territory which led to fighting. "Croatia was continually trying to not only reclaim historical territory, but also gain equal legal and political footing with both Austria and Hungary,...." Yet, Croatians were still determined to assert authority over their territory and used its resources to equip their armed forces. the Croatian Military undertook 2 major offensives to regain its territories. In 1995, Croatia eventually re-asserted its authority over the enemy territory. Croatia had regained its lost territories after the Operation Storm with the help of lieutenant Ante Gotovina. At the end, not everyone agreed with the Croatians. For instance, Veligleo Kadewic, the general of the Yugoslavia people's army. He believed that Croatia and other nations should not gain their independence and stay under control of Yugoslavia .
